New Residential Construction in January 2006
The U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development jointly announced the following new residential construction statistics for January 2006.
Building Permits
Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in January were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 2,217,000. This is 6.8 percent (0.9%) above the revised December rate of 2,075,000 and is 3.8 percent (1.2%) above the January 2005 estimate of 2,136,000.
