"Take a Fresh Look at Old Sights in St. Augustine"

In her article, "Take a Fresh Look at Old Sights in St. Augustine," Mary Thurwater of Cox News Service invites readers to come enjoy the beauty and history of St. Augustine. According to Thurwater, St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European settlement in North America, and was actually already 55 years old by the time the pilgrims came to Plymouth Rock in 1620. Juan Ponce de Leon landed in St. Augustine in 1513 and took possession of the area for Spain. In 1565, Pedro Menendez de Aviles was sent by King Phillip to colonize the area. He landed on the Feast day of St. Augustine, which is how the city got its name.

Thurwater claims that tourists have been coming to St. Augustine since the 1880s, but today's "place to be" is Old Town, a restoration fo the original city center. There you can find the oldest store, house, and wooden schoolhouse. It's refreshingly interesting and historical atmosphere is not only a great place to consider for vacation, but perhaps your next move!
